The management of a condo tower in Toronto's Entertainment District is warning residents after a resident tested positive for the novel coronavirus this week.
This news comes as 85 more cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Ontario on Tuesday, bringing the province’s total — including recoveries and deaths — to 588, with an additional 10,074 people still waiting for test results. This shows how rapidly the virus has been spreading in the past few days, as just three weeks ago, we reported that there were only 20 cases in the entire province.

On Tuesday morning, residents of the Soho Condominium and Hotel in downtown Toronto were informed via email that on Monday evening, management was informed that a resident of the building had tested positive for COVID-19. The resident has since self-isolated in accordance with Public Health requirements.
As a result, the Soho Hotel and its restaurants are now closed as per government guidelines and the door from the condo building's lobby to the hotel’s lobby has also been closed. Additionally, the hotel now only has three people on staff.
In response to the confirmed case, management said additional cleaning and sterilizing from the 15th floor to the P3 parking level, including all the garbage chute rooms, mailroom, and the lobby is being completed on Tuesday.
All residents of the building are now being reminded to minimize visitors, practice social distancing, and to pick up deliveries promptly.
The condo’s management also advised anyone in the building with questions about COVID-19 to contact Toronto Public Health, which is currently monitoring 239 cases here in the city.
This news comes the day after Mayor John Tory declared a State of Emergency in Toronto and Premier Doug Ford announced all non-essential businesses must close Tuesday evening at midnight to curb the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
