Toronto got a little more connected to the waterfront today.
The long-awaited Garrison Crossing bicycle, pedestrian and, of course, dog bridge opened Tuesday morning by Mayor John Tory and city councillors Joe Cressy and Mike Layton. Basically, users will now be able to walk from Trinity Bellwood’s Park across the train tracks to the south of Fort York.

The bridge represents another important piece in the city’s ongoing effort to reconnect neighbourhoods north of the train corridor to the vibrant western waterfront. Construction began in the Spring of 2016, though the passage was first envisioned over 10 years ago.
The Garrison Crossing project, formerly known as the Fort York Pedestrian and Cycle Bridge was championed by CreateTO, which was created in 2018 as the City of Toronto’s new real estate agency.
The stainless steel bridge – the first of its kind in Canada – connects three parks - Ordnance Park, South Stanley Park and the Fort York Grounds and is located just to the east of Liberty Village and Exhibition Place.
