With an asymmetrical facade and built skillfully into a hillside, it should come as no surprise that 168 Ellis Park Road is the brainchild of an architect. Graham Smith, the Managing Principal at Altius Architecture, built the home to be a family residence. In mid-July, his meticulous masterpiece hit the market and sold less than a month later.

The home has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and is four storeys. It's situated in High Park Swansea, next to the restaurants, shops, and nightlife of Bloor West Village.

The slope that the home is built into has an interesting backstory. In a past life, it was a ski hill. Following that, an overgrown infill site. Because of the angle of the hill, the lot was considered unbuildable.

Smith didn't share in that belief. He constructed the home using the angle of the land to elevate the design. The first three levels have walkout access, and because of the home's hillside situation, the outdoor areas are completely private.

The inside of the home is just as bespoke. The basement level includes a four-car garage and mudroom. The ground floor includes one bedroom and a family room.

On the main level, you'll find an open-concept dining, living, and kitchen area. Douglas Fir ceiling beams, a wood-burning fireplace, and a built-in pizza oven immediately catch the eye. A striking red-primed steel staircase leads to the fourth level.

On the fourth level, you'll find three more bedrooms, including an open-concept master suite. The master features a large soaker tub and a walk-in shower with views of High Park. The bedrooms are flooded with unobstructed natural light. A stair tower leads to a rooftop garden.

On top of all the eye candy, the home was designed with sustainability as a priority. Geothermal and radiant floor heating, passive solar and ventilation strategies, daylighting techniques, and recycled materials have been utilized throughout.

The Specs:

But no home is safe from the rapidly-cooling real estate market. Although it was listed for $5,000,000, it sold for $4,786,000 . That's $214,000 under asking.
