It’s an exciting week in the city. TIFF 2019 is well under way and the weather is still warm. Celebrities and socialites have touched down for films and parties as moviegoers enter packed theatres to see the best in cinema. At the same time, Toronto has several crews located across the GTA filming upcoming movies and television series.

Awake
Upcoming Netflix sci-fi thriller "Awake" stars Gina Rodriguez as a former soldier with a troubled past who might have an answer for humanity’s problems. Set in a world where a global event wipes out all electronics and stops people from being able to sleep, Rodriguez's character may have the cure but it comes in the form of her daughter. Last week, scenes were reportedly shot around Peterborough's Little Lake.
Coroner — Season 2
Filming until the end of November, the second season of CBC’s Coroner builds on the story of newly appointed coroner Dr. Jenny Cooper as she investigates a string of mysterious deaths in Toronto. Both set and filmed in the city, the crime drama was renewed after its first season received more than a million views. Directed by Morwyn Brebner, the television series stars Serinda Swan, Tamara Podemski and Roger Cross.
Feel the Beat
Actress Sofia Carson, star of The Descendants, takes the lead role in Netflix's dance film "Feel the Beat." Carson plays a dancer who returns to her hometown after failing to find her place amongst the stars on Broadway in New York City. Back home, she reluctantly joins a group of misfit dancers for a big competition. Carson is joined by actors Dennis Andres, Enrico Colantoni and Lidya Jewett.
Good Witch — Season 6
This supernatural comedy-drama series heads back to the city to film for its sixth season. Starring Catherine Bell, the Good Witch follows the life of newly widowed Cassie Nightingale who lives in the fictional town of Middleton with her teenage daughter Grace. This will be the first season without Bailee Madison as Grace Russell.
Jupiter's Legacy — Season 1
This upcoming superhero drama by Netflix will star Josh Duhamel, Ben Daniels, Leslie Bibb, Elena Kampouris and Andrew Horton. While the series is set in the modern world, it will follow the story of a group of superheroes who first gain their supernatural powers in the 1930s. In the present day, the series focuses on the leaders of the superhero world and their otherworldly children who try to live up to them.
Madam C.J. Walker
Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer takes the lead in Netflix's limited series Madam C.J. Walker. The series is based on the life story of the first African-American female millionaire in the early 20th century. Born in Louisiana, 1867, to two former slaves, Walker became orphaned at 7 and married at 14. This rag-to-riches story follows the life of Walker in her upward mobility from clothing washer to Black hair care entrepreneur.
Mrs. America
Upcoming American drama miniseries Mrs. America stars Cate Blanchett as Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative pundit who opposed the Equal Rights Amendment. Schlafly was a controversial and polarizing figure in the 1970s, whose anti-abortion, anti-feminist views proved contentious. The series, ordered by FX, are spearheaded by Dahvi Waller, the producer behind Mad Men and Halt and Catch Fire.
Murdoch Mysteries — Season 13
Murdoch Mysteries is back in Toronto to film its 13th season! This CBC series, set in the late 1890s and early 1900s, follows William Murdoch as he solves murders in Toronto using forensics and his unconventional approach to crime fighting.
In 2018, Toronto Storeys had the privilege of stopping by Murdoch Mysteries actor Yanick Bisson's former home.
Private Eyes — Season 4
The fourth season of Global's hit detective series Private Eyes is now filming. The successful Canadian original scripted series follows former professional hockey player Matt Shade (Jason Priestley) as he teams up with private investigator Angie Everett (Cindy Sampson) to become a detective.
Star Trek: Discovery — Season 3
Star Trek: Discovery heads back to Toronto to film its third season. Set a decade before Captain Kirk's five-year mission, the series is a precursor to other franchises and stars Sonequa Martin-Green as the notorious Michael Burnham. The series provides viewers with a sleek, modern reimagining of the Star Trek universe and its many species and civilizations.
The Boys — Season 2
Karl Urban plays Billy Butcher in American superhero series The Boys. As the leader of a team of vigilantes, Butcher and his boys seek to keep corrupted heroes who abuse their supernatural powers under control. Renewed for a second season, The Boys is an original spin on the superhero genre.
The Umbrella Academy — Season 2
Netflix's The Umbrella Academy is filming its second season in Toronto, starring Ellen Page, Tom Hopper and David Castañeda. The series follows a family reunited after their father's death. Each member of the estranged family has extraordinary powers and by coming together again, shocking secrets about their family are revealed.
