British Columbia real estate is already pretty pricey, but the town of Whistler — the province's mountain sports mecca — just set a new record for how high its prices can go.
Luxury real estate brokerage Engel & Völkers announced earlier this week the sale of a sprawling 7.6-acre estate at 5462 Stonebridge Drive for $32M — the highest-priced residential sale on record for Whistler.
At that price point, the home is expectedly dripping in luxury. Designed by architect Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, it features six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, a wine room, and a spa. An abundance of floor-to-ceiling windows offer stunning panoramic views of Alta Lake, Whistler Mountain, and Blackcomb Mountain, whether you've just woken up in jaw-dropping the primary suite or are enjoying a meal in the airy kitchen.

The interior design choices are just as enviable. Warm wood planks are used on the floor walls and ceiling, and a stunning stone fireplace soars two storeys in height.
Stepping outside will not only get you that crisp Whistler air, but access to an 82-ft infinity pool and over 3,000 sq. ft of decks and terraces.
“This remarkable listing is an architectural masterpiece tucked away in Whistler’s breathtaking mountain setting. The home perfectly marries its rugged surroundings with design artistry and its these elements that make it the highest priced listing Whistler has ever seen,” said Max Thornhill, License Partner at Engel & Völkers Whistler. “We worked closely with the buyers to demonstrate the cost of the home, providing details on the architecture, building materials, time and replacement costs.”

When the property was put on the market, it was listed at $39M — the priciest listing in Canada at the time. The sale was brokered by Maggi Thornhill and Max Thornhill, license partners of Engel & Völkers Whistler through the Engel & Völkers Private Office network, which the company notes is "reserved for the company’s top real estate advisors across the globe."
Whistler, like all other municipalities outside of a census metropolitan area or census agglomeration, is exempt from the foreign buyers ban, which allowed for an international buyer to snag the record-setting property.
