The proposal by Ontario premier Doug Ford to build an Eglinton Crosstown West extension with access to Pearson Airport is moving forward. Partnering with Metrolinx, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has announced that $40 million will be dedicated towards extending the new transit project to the airport.

This project puts "another tangible step forward to bring important transit connections to Canada's mega hub airport and build a regional transit network, anchored by a new regional transit centre (RTC) at Pearson." Called Union Staton West, the hub will see an additional $38 million provided by GTAA for a whopping $78 million project.
GTAA has released a new whitepaper that outlines proposed plans for the airport RTC. In 2019, several sessions will be carried out with stakeholders to move the project forward. "A Union Station West at Pearson makes strategic sense for the Greater Golden Horseshoe," states the whitepaper.
"Pearson is already a major trip generator in the region and is within the second-largest job area in Canada. It is also adjacent to several 400-series highways and multiple existing or planned transit services."

In a Monday press release, the premier said "[o]ur government is making the single largest capital investment in new subway builds in Canadian history."
This major transit initiative could be fantastic for local real estate and urban development. Transit projects are always important opportunities for growth in the surrounding area.
