After over a year of rent declines amid the pandemic, average rents in the Greater Toronto Area continue to increase as rental demand surges.

Last month, the average rental rate across the GTA increased month-over-month by 3% to $2,078, with Toronto experiencing the largest monthly increase at 4.7% to $2,167. July's steady increase marks the fourth straight month in a row in which average rents have risen after 14 consecutive months of monthly declines. 

With demand steadily increasing, Toronto-area leasing agents continue to report bidding wars on prime rental suites as active listings continue to decline, while suites in new purpose-built apartments are leasing at a quicker rate than last year.

And with rents in Toronto still relatively high compared to other Canadian cities, renters can turn to areas outside of the city for relatively more affordable -- and spacious -- options.

To get a better understanding of what units renters are eyeing up these days and where they want to live, we’ve rounded up the most-viewed rentals in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) -- which includes Mississauga, Etobicoke, York, North York, Burlington, Scarborough, and Pickering -- from August 10 to 24, according to data from our friends at Rentals.ca.

The data is broken down into different rental unit segments, including apartments and condos, and then broken down by 1, 2, and 3+ bedroom units. The 3+ units for rent are for any type (house, condo, townhome and apartments).
