Toronto-based Altree Developments is upping the ante, once again, on its plans to bring new housing, height, and density to Toronto’s Weston Village. The firm submitted a proposal to the City in mid-April for a 43-storey “east” tower at 1693-1709 Weston Road and 6-10 Victoria Avenue East, which would mirror a 43-storey “west” tower, approved for the site in July 2025.

“Since the 2025 Approval, the owners have acquired the properties at 6 and 8 Victoria Avenue East so that the assembly now includes all lands between Weston Road and the rail corridor, on the north side of Victoria Avenue East, extending north to the Metrolinx property and parking lot,” says the planning letter that went to the City on behalf of Altree last month.

The letter also highlights the opportunity to introduce 996 new residential units to the area between the two towers, where future residents would be under a ten-minute walk from Weston Station, servicing both the GO and UP Express.

Of the units proposed, a 34% share would be the larger, family-sized units that Toronto sorely needs, 15 would be affordable rental replacement units, and six would be new affordable rental units. Currently, the site is occupied by two owner-occupied residences and four vacant buildings.

Renderings prepared by Graziani + Corazza Architects show the east and west towers with six-storey bases in brick veneer and glassy tower elements above. The towers look identical at first blush, however, the planning report describes a laundry list of minor variations. For example, both buildings are shown with trapezoid-shaped tower elements, however, the southeast corner of the east building juts out more towards the angled property line. In addition, the east portion of the west building has a two-storey podium element.

Altree’s agenda for the Weston Village site has been in flux since December 2017, when the company filed plans for a 25-storey mixed-use building at 1709 Weston Road. In July 2020, the plans were revised to include 1693 Weston Road, and in June 2021, City Council approved a 24-storey building with 254 residential units and a retail component at grade. Altree increased the height of the proposal to 43 storeys in an August 2024 proposal.

Meanwhile, a slew of approvals in Weston Village since 2021 bodes well for a third City Council approval for Altree. Some of the developments coming to the neighbourhood include a 39-storey residential building at 16 Wilby Crescent — also from Altree — a 42-storey building at 13-21 John Street and 40 South Station Street from Devron Developments and a 45-storey mixed-use building at 1828-1844 Weston Road from Castlepoint Numa.
