With a special weather statement currently in place for Toronto, the City says it's prepared to respond to the 'extreme weather' that's expected today.
Environment Canada says brief yet strong gusts of wind are possible today, as a strong cold front will make its way through the region this morning into early this afternoon. This will be followed by a band of scattered showers or thunderstorms.

Scattered wind gusts near or in excess of 90 km/h will be possible as the band moves through the region and given the scattered nature of the band, Environment Canada says "confidence in high winds gusts occurring in any given place is low."
Where these strong winds develop, the weather agency says local power outages will likely occur.
In response, the City of Toronto says it is prepared to respond to Friday's weather.
"Transportation Services staff will ensure roadways remain safe and passable for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians during and after any rain event, " the City said in a statement.
"Right now, staff are proactively clearing debris from catch basins and monitoring roadways prone to flooding. In the event of a sudden temperature drop, staff and salting equipment are at the ready."
Additionally, Parks, Forestry, and Recreation has 55 Urban Forestry crews ready to respond to fallen trees and branches. Toronto Hydro crews are also prepared to respond to any damaged hydro infrastructure.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose objects in yards and on balconies. In the event of basement flooding, homeowners should contact Toronto Hydro at 416-542-8000 to shut off power and then call 311. Road flooding and fallen trees or branches can be reported to 311.
In light of COVID-19, Toronto Public Health continues to encourage all residents to stay home and avoid non-essential travel. Staying in is also the safest choice during periods of very strong winds and rain.
