Another day, another Canada Post controversy.
This time, the crown corporation caused a commotion after it cancelled service to three Toronto Community Housing Corporation buildings in Etobicoke. It’s now been over a month since residents received regular mail service.

The reason? Canada Post said there were “several assaults against our delivery agent” in February. As a result, they’ve decided to suspend service until they can resolve the issue.
“Our employees’ safety is our top priority. As an employer, it is our responsibility to ensure that their workplace is safe,” said in a statement, according to City News.
Notices were placed in the lobby of the three buildings, which are located near Kipling Avenue and Albion Road. They informed residents that their mail was being redirected to a nearby facility.

While the facility is less than three kilometres away (roughly a 30-minute walk at a moderate pace), the issue is that it is only open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., making it very difficult for people with full-time jobs to pick up their mail. Not only that, but many of the tenants are seniors who may not be physically able to get to the facility.
Tenant Thomas Boehler told City News he believes the issue can be easily resolved if TCHC buildings have their security start earlier than their regularly scheduled 4 p.m. time in order to escort Canada Post employees to the mailroom. “It’s not rocket science,” he said.

TCHC and Canada Post are currently working together to find a solution, but there’s been no word on how long it will take.
This isn’t the first time Canada Post has refused to deliver mail to an apartment building due to the safety of their employees. Last summer, service to a Scarborough building was temporarily suspended after a Canada Post employee was threatened.

Canada Post service has been on the decline ever since employees went on strike in October, causing a number of delays. Now four months later, some Canadians are still experiencing delays as a result, according to social media posts.
Besides this, ongoing issues with Canada Post include employees leaving delivery slips without knocking, lost packages, and a lack of customer service. Adding these TCHC cancelled deliveries to the list only makes things worse.
