You can take the final home of Alex Trebek with an answer of $6,995,000.
The Studio City, California home of the late Canadian host of long-time game show Jeopardy! has just been listed by his real estate agent daughter, Emily Trebek and fellow realtor Renee Ogiens.
Trebek purchased the sprawling 1923-built, Mediterranean-style home at 3405 Fryman Road back in 1991, and lived there with his wife Jean until his death from pancreatic cancer on November 8, 2020. Actually, the beloved prime time TV fixture actually passed away peacefully in the home (how’s that for a conversation starter for guests?).
And it's pretty much just as he left it.
Located in the coveted Fryman Estates area (where George and Amal Clooney also have a home), steps away from Wilacre Park, the multi-winged mansion features close to 10,000-square-feet of living space on just under one and a half peaceful acres.
The home’s interior reveals telling tidbits of information about Alex Trebek, who was 80-years-old at the time of his death. First, the Trebeks weren't ones for major home updates throughout the years. They also didn’t shy away from bold carpeting, and apparently had a soft spot for the colours pink and red.
That’s not to say that the sprawling home isn’t impressive; it surely is. The main house features four large bedrooms and nine bathrooms. The large primary suite is a home within itself, with two bathrooms, four walk-in closets(!), a sitting area, a terrace, and a study. Despite regal-feeling aspects like a dramatic grand foyer, dual wrought-iron staircases, and luxurious drapery, the property still manages to feel like a family home. Four fireplaces throughout add to this welcoming home-like feel.
Perfect for entertaining, the home offers both formal and informal dining rooms, a bar and theatre in a statement-making media room/entertainment wing, and a butler’s pantry off of the kitchen. While the kitchen itself is a little dated (and refreshingly ordinary, given its famous owner), it’s spacious and features a large central island. A sunroom adjoins the kitchen and opens into the gardens.
Visitors are welcome to get comfortable and stay awhile in the property’s detached guest house, which features one bedroom, 1.5 bathrooms, a complete kitchen, a living room with a fireplace, and a single-car garage.
The idyllic property is full of lush greenery, rolling lawns, gardens, and mature oak trees -- perhaps best enjoyed from a simple but pristine swimming pool or from one of the multiple peaceful balconies and verandas that fill the home.
A proud Canadian, Trebek was originally from Sudbury, Ontario. When he first purchased the California home, he had just married his wife Jean and was seven years into the Jeopardy! hosting gig that made him a household name. In the home, the couple raised three children over the years, as Trebek’s fame continued to grow.

One can only wonder if it will be easier to find an owner for his former home than it is to find a permanent Jeopardy! host to fill his shoes.
In the meantime -- in other celeb-related real estate news -- if BC is more your idea of a place to call home, a massive Vancouver condo that once belonged to Jean-Claude Van Damme is also currently up for grabs (for a cool $10M, that is).
