A luxurious Vancouver mansion just came back on the market for $10.9M, and although that may not exactly seem like a steal, it's actually a significant discount for this particular property.
The nearly 10,000 sq. ft home, located at 1462 Connaught Drive in the affluent Shaughnessy neighbourhood, hit the market earlier this month. But this isn't the property's only listing in recent months. Back in November, it was listed for sale with a $16.8M asking price -- nearly $6M more than the current listing.
Designed by architect James Cheng, best known for his designs of Toronto's Shangri-La Hotel and Vancouver's Fairmont Pacific Rim, the home's design drew inspiration from Asian influences and, according to the listing, offers serene living spaces and sophisticated interiors.
As to be expected with a luxury home in this price range, the over 21,000-sq.-ft property is dripping in high-end amenities. For starters, there's a full-size tennis court in the backyard, along with a hot tub and outdoor BBQ area. Moving inside, you'll find seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, an expansive home theatre, a guest suite, maid's quarters, and what the listing describes as a "Chinese kitchen".
Interestingly, even with all of those features packed into the oversized home, BC Assessment values the 1986-built mansion at just $8,693,000 -- significantly below either of the property's asking prices.

The home's design, although dated in some rooms like the bathroom and kitchen, is overall impressive. From the tall manicured hedges out front to the two-storey atrium with vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, it was designed with opulence in mind. The Asian influence peeks through in the home's minimalist design and clean lines, but makes itself more obvious with finishing touches like the Shoji doors.
As nice of a home as it may be to own, whether the Vancouver mansion will sell or not at its new price point remains to be seen.
