“I laugh because I must not cry, that is all, that is all." Now, old Honest Abe may not have been talking about real estate when he quipped that all-time line, but that doesn't mean it isn't an apt observation for many of us watching the current market.
In case you've been living under a rock (which, by the way, you could probably convince people is just a "stone bungalow" with "historic roots" and list for $999,999 with the intention of selling for over-asking), let us give you the Coles Notes on the madness that is the Canadian real estate market right now:
- Canadian Home Sales Just Marked Highest-Ever Activity Levels in History
- Aggregate Price of a Home in Canada Expected to Break $800K This Year
- Toronto Real Estate Market Now Hotter Than 2016 Housing Boom that Caused Government Intervention
- If You Thought Housing in Toronto Was Already Expensive, Just Wait: CIBC
Cool cool cool.
Anyway, it seems that our neighbours to the south are feeling much the same way, and @johnsonfiles took to TikTok to make a hilarious video (again, we laugh so we do not cry) that captures the intensity and the insanity currently taking place for many would-be buyers in many a real estate market throughout North America.
Throughout the nearly 1-minute satirical video, several characters join in the melee in an effort to bid on a new, just listed, apple. And while they nail many of the current emotions and realities driving up today's real estate market -- "Is it even worth that?!" -- perhaps the most important line is the one we hope to hear least of all: "Why did I do that?"
Thankfully, watching this video won't give you any FOMO. It may, however, make you want to eat an apple. Luckily, we just happen to have a new one for sale right here...
