If you’re planning on driving in and around Toronto this weekend, you may want to reconsider that decision. Otherwise, you’ll most definitely need to pack your patience. Times are already tough on the congestion front, thanks to the perpetual construction on city streets and the start of the Gardiner Expressway’s three-year(!) lane reductions.

This weekend, the situation is about to get worse. Thanks to TV shoots, construction, a parade, and the Toronto Marathon, the city will see many road closures this weekend that will inevitably make for some maddening traffic.

Don Valley Parkway

From Friday night at 10pm to Saturday morning at 4:59am, drivers will find two lanes blocked on the southbound DVP at Lawrence Avenue for bridge rehabilitation. From Friday night at 10pm to Saturday morning at 4:59am, the Northbound Don Valley Parkway At Spanbridge Rd. will see two right lanes occupied due to bridge rehabilitation of four DVP bridges, cleaning and coating of structures. In the same timeframe, the southbound curb lane and shoulder of the Southbound Don Valley Parkway From Lawrence Ave E To Wynford Dr.blocked due to completing a test hole investigation. Similarly, the Northbound curb lane and shoulder of Northbound Don Valley Parkway From Danforth To Pottery Rd will be blocked due to completing a test hole investigation during the same time period. Finally, all weekend long, westbound Lawrence Ave over The Don Valley Parkway will see one westbound land blocked due to ongoing bridge rehabilitation.

Gardiner Expressway

On Sunday, the infamous Gardiner Expressway will see more closures when an additional westbound lane is closed overnight for the installation of a security fence. The closure will take place between Dowling Avenue and Riverside Drive and last until June 14, closing the lane between 11pm and 5am daily, Sunday to Thursdays. In the event of an event at Scotiabank Arena, Rogers Centre, BMO Field or the Budweiser Stage, the lane closure will begin at midnight.

Lake Shore Boulevard

Adding to the inconvenience of the Gardiner lane reductions, on Saturday between 6am and 4pm, driving restrictions will take place at the intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard and Bay Street for road restoration after a gas main installation. Furthermore, Bay Street will be closed between Richmond and Adelaide streets on Saturday between 7am and 3pm.
