As of this week, the most expensive house in Toronto has gone up for sale at 17 Ardwold Gate. Built in 2014, this is the exquisite 6+2-bedroom, 11-bathroom mansion’s first time on the market. It is now listed at $34.5M.

Located in Toronto’s Casa Loma neighbourhood, the house has stunning views of the city skyline. The three-storey home has ample amenities, not to mention an in-ground pool, library, and 20 parking spaces, 11 of which are interior alongside a vehicle turntable and car wash station.

According to a 2011 article from the Globe and Mail, prior to the existence of 17 Ardwold’s current manor, a mid-century modern home could be found at the address. The former house was completed in 1960 and was designed for Canadian business magnate St. Clair Balfour, who was the president of the once-famous Southam newspaper chain.

The property was then purchased in 2011 for $6,853,000. Now, 17 Ardwold Gate is the priciest single-family home for sale in Toronto, asking over five times what it was bought for 13 years ago. The house also claims the title of the second-most expensive single-family home in the entire province, right behind a $37M lakefront estate near Barrie, Ontario.

Specs:

One caveat to note is that while 17 Ardwold is the most expensive standalone house in Toronto, it is not the most expensive home on the market in the city – that title goes to a condo unit at The One, a new luxury building still under construction downtown. The 8,758-sq.-ft. condo is listed for $34.982M.

So what makes this mansion’s price tag so high?

Well, it could be the short walk to both Casa Loma and Sir Winston Churchill Park, the more than 15,200 sq. ft. of living space, 12-ft. ceilings, chef-inspired kitchen with a walk-in fridge, gym with a wet and dry sauna and hot tub, wine cellar, home movie theatre, or any of the other incredible features this modern, high-end home has to offer.

For the right buyer, this regal manor will likely be a dream come true.

Existing home sales are on the upswing in Ontario, growing almost 7% month over month in January. This could mean that sticky interest rates are not holding buyers back anymore and, hopefully, more jaw-dropping homes could be hitting the Toronto market in the coming months.
