Easter weekend is fast approaching, and although for many individuals across Toronto, that means a long weekend with extra time to relax, it also means that hundreds of services, restaurants, and stores will temporarily close their doors.


Good Friday, which is happening on April 15, is a statutory holiday in Ontario, meaning much of the city will be shut down as workers take the day off. Some of the closures will carry on for Easter Sunday and Monday as well, despite the fact they're not stat holidays in the province.

So what exactly will be open and closed in Toronto this Easter weekend? Here's what you can expect.

Places That Are Closed:

  • LCBO and Beer Stores
  • Banks
  • Provincial and municipal government offices
  • Post offices and mail delivery
  • Most grocery stores
  • Libraries
  • CF Fairview Mall
  • CF Sherway Gardens
  • Yorkdale Shopping Centre
  • Dufferin Mall
  • Bayview Village Shops
  • Scarborough Town Centre

Places That Are Open:

  • The TTC will operate on a holiday schedule
  • GO Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule
  • Some restaurants will still be open for takeout, delivery, and patio dining. We advise calling ahead to see what’s open near you.
  • Movie theatres

Most grocery stores will close for Good Friday, with a few exceptions listed below:

  • Loblaws (60 Carlton Street): 7 am to 8 pm
  • Pusateri’s (1539 Avenue Road): 7 am to 6 pm

  • Pusateri’s (2901 Bayview Avenue): 9 am to 6 pm
  • Various Rabba locations: 24 hours
  • Saks Food Hall (25 The West Mall): 9 am to 6 pm
