Four Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area realtor associations voted to merge together on Wednesday, paving the way to create the second-largest real estate board in Ontario.
The nearly 9,000 realtors comprising the Mississauga Real Estate Board, Realtors Association of Hamilton-Burlington, Waterloo Region Association of Realtors, and Simcoe District Real Estate Board will officially come together as the new Cornerstone Association of Realtors on July 1, 2024.
The motion bringing together the various associations was approved during a Special General Meeting of Mississauga Real Estate Board members, passing unanimously.
“I am delighted to announce that Members of the Mississauga Real Estate Board resoundingly supported becoming Cornerstone, joining the Realtors from Hamilton-Burlington, Waterloo Region, and Simcoe in choosing a path forward that will magnify, solidify, and unify our individual strengths,” said Mississauga Real Estate Board President Rita Asadorian.
On a national scale, the new realtor association will be the fourth-largest in Canada.
In a joint news release, the real estate boards said their new venture will allow them to provide "a robust and responsive MLS System, enhanced services, more quality tools, and increased coordination while also capitalizing on economies of scale."
“By harnessing the power of collaboration, the new organization will strengthen and empower Realtors with technology providers, consumers, government, and other stakeholders,” said Christal Moura, President of Waterloo Region Association of Realtors.
