It all started with a comment about avocado toast.

One year ago, millionaire Tim Furner (now famously) said, “When I was trying to buy my first home I wasn’t buying smashed avocados for 19 bucks and four coffees at $4 each.”

And just like that, Millennials became the target of incessant avocado jokes. As if the inability to afford a home anytime soon wasn’t bad enough.

Did anyone stop to think that maybe this is all just a classic what came first … the chicken or the egg scenario?

Maybe home-ownership became so out of reach that Millennials, as a generation, needed to pick themselves up by enjoying the little things in life. Like avocado toast.

Well, this new Instagram account has been tailored with the avocado dream in mind. When someone knocks Millennials down … They get back up (with the use of Instagram — of course).

The account, created by, is self-deprecating while simultaneously uplifting. It looks at the ridiculously-priced homes Millennials could afford — if they stopped buying avocado toast, perhaps.

The captions are as beautiful as the pictures.

So, if you don’t want to fit into the Millennial stereotype of wasting money on over-priced food, go buy a bagel from Tim Hortons today. Or better yet, toast a grocery store bagel at home.

Or you can just continue to enjoy your food, because it (arguably) won’t make a difference anyway.

Wouldn't it be nice if a piece of toast were the only thing in the way of home-ownership? Life would be a lot simpler that way.

Now go eat your avocado toast in peace while you enjoy @theavocadodream.
