A shiny new rose gold condo could one day tower over the intersection of St. Clair and Bathurst like a jewel in the sky.
According to a new proposal put forth to the City of Toronto by DiamondCorp, we could see a 35-storey condo with a rose gold façade replace an existing group of one-storey businesses.
Designed by architectural firm IBI Group, the proposal specifies that the building will reach nearly 116 m. The ground floor will be flanked by a row of sculptural columns that fit with the aesthetic of the historic St. Alphonsus Catholic Church that sits beside it.
The ground floor will feature 152 sq. m of new retail and restaurant space and a vestibule that connects to the lobby of the residential building. Here, 377 condo units will house an assortment of studios (28), one-bedroom (201), two-bedroom (112), and three-bedroom homes (39).
The rose gold-hued development will also feature a cluster of three two-storey townhome-like units north of the tower.
Tellingly, the development will offer just 35 parking spaces in its proposed underground parking real estate. On the other hand, the development has proposed 400 parking spots for bicycles. Whether we see a notable shift away from the car by the time the development materializes, of course, will remain to be seen. In the meantime, the City remains busy expanding its existing cycling network.
Rose gold has had a moment in recent years, appearing in everything from watches and jewellery to laptops, phones, and home appliances. But rose gold-hued buildings have been slower to become mainstream. So, if you're looking to stand out in a sea of glassy Toronto condominiums, this building could be for you.
As for the rose gold trend, let's hope it sticks around for the building's completion.
