According to CBC, the first recorded death due to COVID-19 has taken place in Ontario.
The news agency is reporting that a patient at Barrie's Royal Victoria Hospital – a man in his 70s – has died. CBC learned that the man "was infected with the virus through close contact with somebody who had already tested positive."
This news comes just hours after Premier Doug Ford declared a State of Emergency in the province. British Columbia is currently the only other province to record a COVID-19-related death, with four people having succumb to the virus.
According to The Star, the man who died in Ontario today was not a confirmed case, but rather was under investigation for the virus. COVID-19 was officially discovered after his death.
