After months of confusing route changes and elusive replacement buses, regular service has resumed along the 506 Carlton Streetcar route.
The TTC announced on Sunday that full streetcar service has been restored along the east-west route as construction on College Street between Bathurst Street and Bay Street is now complete.
With service back in full gear, 506 streetcars will arrive every 10 minutes or sooner, the TTC says, while vehicles servicing the 306 Carlton overnight route will arrive every 30 minutes.
Service was initially disrupted in September along College and Carlton Streets, between Ossington Avenue and Parliament Street, as the TTC and the City of Toronto began work on a number of construction projects, including replacing streetcar tracks and repairing hydro utilities. To accommodate the construction, the TTC said it would take a "new approach" and run replacement buses along the nearest parallel corridors and divert streetcar service to Dundas Street.
At the time, TTC CEO Rick Leary called the diversions, which saw streetcars rerouted to Dundas Street West and replacement buses run along parallel streets throughout the city, "inconvenient and confusing" for riders.
“With this new approach, we hope that we can provide consistency, and better service for customers who use the route regularly," Leary said. "We will continue to monitor customer feedback and adjust service if required to provide the best experience possible.”
Regular service resumed between Bay Street and Parliament Street in November.
