No smoking allowed!
Options for Homes is a groundbreaker in the GTA. It's developing Toronto's first "Smokeless" — or vape-only — condominium.
The residential building, on the banks of the Humber River, promises upon completion it will be the first-ever smoke-free condo building in the GTA.
Usually, the decision to smoke or not is made by unit owners. But that decision has already been made for them, as smoking either tobacco or cannabis will be strictly prohibited in the development — unless using a vaporizer.
Still, even with a vaporizer, there are rules. They won't be allowed in any common areas: lobbies, stairwells, elevators, hallways, parking garages, laundry facilities and outdoor spaces.
The Options development, called The Humber, will be located just south of Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West. It's expected to begin selling this summer.
This policy is in line with the not-for-profit organization’s mission to create a family-friendly condo. The unit-mix will be two-thirds two-and-three bedrooms.
The upcoming legalization of marijuana in Canada this year has opened up the discussion of smoking in condos and how it will or won't be governed in residential buildings.
So the policy at The Humber is both timely and groundbreaking.
