People in parts of Barrie are picking up the pieces after an apparent tornado touched down in the city this afternoon.


Though details are still emerging, we know the storm touched down in the Yonge Street and Prince William area at around 2:30 pm. While injuries are not yet known, we do know that the severe weather resulted in significant damage to buildings and backyards.

In advance of the weather, Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for the region.

There have been major damages to residential structures (including one home that lost its entire upper level) and trees and power lines have been knocked down in the area. The severe weather has also resulted in power outages for many in the neighbourhood.
