The annual Toronto Marathon is about to run through your neighbourhood. This will result in many road closures Sunday.
These road closures are a small price to pay for the benefits the Marathon will reap. Organizers hope to surpass $1.2 million this year, which will go to several local charities, including The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and Sick Kids.
The Toronto Marathon, which will host 14,000 participants from over 50 countries, also says it's working closely with city officials to minimize disruptions and re-open roads as quickly as possible.
Here's what you need to know to plan your travel routes this Sunday:
Road closures start at 6 a.m.
The event itself kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with the 10-kilometre run. This will be followed by the marathon, marathon relay, five-kilometre run, half-marathon, and the five-kilometre walk.
North York is the starting point for the marathon and half-marathon. Participants will make their way up Yonge towards the downtown core, along Lake Shore Boulevard, through the Humber Bay Shores area, then back onto Lake Shore. Their finish line is at Ontario Place.
The 10-kilometre participants will start near Yonge and Bloor and end at Ontario Place. While the five-kilometre run and walk both begin and end at Ontario Place.
The road closures will be placed along Yonge and include streets within Bayview Avenue to the east, South Kingsway to the west, Lake Shore Boulevard to the south and Finch Avenue to the north.
These Gardiner and DVP ramps will also be closed:
Eastbound Gardiner ramp to Jarvis Street from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Westbound Gardiner ramp to Lake Shore Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
No access to westbound Lake Shore Boulevard at Spadina Avenue from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
