Effective Monday, February 12, the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) will take on the new name of Greater Vancouver Realtors, REBGV announced on Thursday.
"In recent years, we've conducted public and member research to lay a foundation for a new strategic direction," said REBGV CEO Jeff King.
"With today's announcement," added REBGV Chair Jennifer Quart, "we seek to lay one more brick to set the foundation for this new strategic direction. To boldly move in a new direction, you must signal that you're serious about affecting change to your intended audiences. This calls for us to make a strategic pivot from our proud history and embrace a new brand that better reflects our identity and goals and the customer that we both serve and represent."
King said that he believes the change to Greater Vancouver Realtors will be a "significant" and "very positive" change for the association, which has a membership of over 15,000.

"As Greater Vancouver Realtors, our new name will make it clear that we act on your behalf, whether it's advocating for better housing affordability solutions, communicating the latest housing market information, or donating funds to charity," added Quart.
"While our name and face may change, our committment to providing exceptional service remains unwaivering," King said. "We're here to support you and advise you when necessary, and champion excellence in every aspect of our service."
According to its website, the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver was one of Vancouver's earliest professional associations, beginning operations in 1919 when 10 local real estate brokers formed the Vancouver Real Estate Exchange. Two years later, at the urging of the Real Estate Exchange, the provincial government introduced the Real Estate Agents' Licensing Act, setting minimum standards of practice for licensed brokers.
REBGV was formerly called the Vancouver Real Estate Board.(Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver)

In 1948, the Vancouver Real Estate Exchange was renamed the Vancouver Real Estate Board, before then taking on the name of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver in 1970, making Greater Vancouver Realtors the fourth name in the board's history.
REBGV says the new name and branding will be reflected across its website, letterheads, and social media on Feb. 12.
