On Wednesday, commercial real estate brokerage Avison Young announced that Brett Armstrong will be taking over the mantle of Managing Director at the firm's Vancouver office.
The announcement comes after an extensive search among internal and external candidates, the firm said, and is effective December 2.
Armstrong originally joined Avison Young in September 2012 as a Sales Representative before working up to Senior Associate, Vice President, then Practice Leader for the downtown Toronto leasing team.
After nearly 12 years at the Toronto office, Armstrong then relocated to the firm's Vancouver office earlier this year, joining as Principal and Senior Vice President of Leasing.
"I've been fortunate to work with so many leasing clients – large and small – which has given me tremendous insights into our business, and I believe this has positioned me well for these next steps to lead the Vancouver team," said Armstrong in a press release on Wednesday. "I look forward to collaborating with all parts of the firm to demonstrate how truly integrated we are, to elevate the Avison Young brand and to help our people shine."
According to Avison Young, in the new role, Armstrong will be focused on revenue growth, market share, and building out the team with new talent.
"At the same time, technology and data-driven solutions will remain a differentiator, as Armstrong strives to ensure these are woven into all client offerings," said the firm. "He will also continue to champion Avison Young's integrated, holistic approach, encouraging the team to partner with service lines and experts across the country and around the world."
"Brett's commitment to building the prominence of Avison Young in the region is a strategic priority that I embrace as Vancouver remains a key market in Canada," added Mark Fieder, Principal and President of Avison Young Canada. "He has been a top producer for the firm over the last decade and now that he is stepping into an MD role as leader, mentor, and guide, I know his experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm will serve him well."
Wednesday's announcement comes about a year and a half after the firm named Jessica Toppazzini as Managing Director of the Vancouver office, the first woman to hold such a title across the firm's Canadian operations. Toppazzini's LinkedIn indicates her tenure as Principal and Managing Director ended in August 2024.
