The real estate industry pays the bills not only with hefty commissions, but with social media as well.
New research reveals social media’s highest-earning TV real estate personalities -- and the figures may inspire you to ramp up your on-camera skills and social media game.
The research, conducted by real estate experts Agent Advice, examined the social media profiles of every TV personality from a real estate or home improvement show. It relied on the Influencer Marketing Calculator to establish which star has the most influential social media presence ands how much they can earn per sponsored Instagram post, if they were to to partner with brands on the platform.
“Ranging from real estate agents, remodelers, investors, and interior designers, many popular TV show hosts have become celebrities in their own right and have been able to develop huge followings on social media,” says Chris Heller, Co-founder of Agent Advice. “Real estate has always been a hot topic. These findings highlight the success and popularity of real estate and home development TV shows, with many hosts able to live comfortably on income from social media alone.”
The research revealed that Joanna Gaines is the highest-earning TV home improvement star on social media. With a celeb-worthy 13.7M followers, the designer and entrepreneur could earn an estimated $45,329 USD per sponsored post on Instagram. Gaines and her husband Chip (Gaines) have numerous sources of income, including their beloved Fixer Upper series, Magnolia Realty, Magnolia Network, Magnolia Homes, and numerous retail and restaurant businesses in their native Texas. Their collective net worth is a cool $50M.
With that said, Chip Gaines ranks second on the list. The contractor and entrepreneur has the second-highest Instagram following of 5.1M, allowing him to earn an estimated potential of $17,126 USD per sponsored post on Instagram. Chip also runs several businesses, including a real estate company, construction company, and retail store (yes, we’re wondering how he does it all, too).
According to the research, Christine Quinn is the third highest-earning real estate TV star. The breakout star of Netflix's hugely popular Selling Sunset has an Instagram following of 4.1M, the third-highest follower count in the ranking. This means that the famous real estate agent could earn up to $13,854 USD for a single sponsored Instagram post. Of course, this is in addition to the commission she receives selling some of America’s priciest homes.
The fourth highest-earning real estate star on social media is Quinn’s fellow Selling Sunset star, Chrishell Stause. The actress and reality TV star can expect to earn up to an estimated $12,083 USD per sponsored Instagram post due to her 3.6M followers and also has the second-highest engagement rate in the ranking, with 2.97%.
Meanwhile, yet another Selling Sunset star, Heather Rae Young, can expect to earn up to an estimated $10,151 USD per sponsored Instagram post, making her the fifth highest-earning real estate TV star. Young has 3M followers on Instagram and an engagement rate of 4.09% – the highest rate in the ranking – making her Instagram account at hot one for sponsorship deals. Heather’s husband, Tarek El Moussa, also features in the ranking, placing 15th overall. The real estate investor found fame with the launch of the HGTV series Flip or Flop and can expect to earn up to $4,328 USD per sponsored Instagram post.
The sixth highest-earning star is Canadian famous face Jonathan Scott. As one-half of the celebrated Property Brothers, Jonathan has 2.6M followers on Instagram, earning an estimated $8,871 USD per sponsored post. Following closely behind is the other half of the Property Brothers, his twin Drew Scott, who ranks seventh. Drew has an Instagram following of 2.5M, allowing him to earn up to $8,289 USD per sponsored post. Outside of their TV show, the brothers have authored several books, founded Scott Brothers Entertainment, and even developed the Property Brothers Home Design app.
The top ten is rounded out with Selling Sunset cast members Mary Fitzgerald ranking in eighth place and Emma Hernan in ninth, followed by Christina in the Country star Christina Hall in tenth place.
