Anyone who's gone for a stroll in Oriole Park, located in midtown's leafy Chaplin Estates neighbourhood, as of late may have had a moment of panic at the prospect of losing the beloved park, which houses a playground and tennis courts.

As documented by Josh Matlow on Twitter, a mysterious fake development notice has appeared outside of the tennis courts. Furthermore, taped to a pole in the park is a notice urging people to "save Oriole Park" from the 88-storey development that is supposedly set to take over its prime real estate, reducing the park to a distant memory in the process.

The sign urges people to take part in a town meeting at the local Bull and Firkin pub on the 23rd.

The thing is, there's no such development in discussion (as for the pub night, that remains to be seen). So, the whole thing is really weird.

Apparently, however, this may not be the first time such a "prank" has been played on the city. In 2016, a group of artists trolled the city with fake development signs, one of which outlined a 90-storey development supposedly planned on top of City Hall.

While little remains known about the origin of the fake development news in Oriole Park at this time, we suspect this isn't the last we'll hear about it.

In the meantime, it's definitely giving the neighbourhood something to talk about (which, presumably, was the whole intent).
