An upcoming Toronto condo development will have a Hollywood stamp of approval.
Famed Canadian Simu Liu is getting into the condo business -- but don’t worry, you’ll still catch the superstar on the big screen.
In the coming years, a 69-storey mixed-use condo development will rise from a prime location at 8 Elm Street in Toronto, towering over Yonge-Dundas Square. Liu will lend his creative eye to the Reserve Properties’ and Capital Developments’ project, aptly named 8 Elm on Yonge.
The site currently features three heritage buildings that recently housed businesses, including big name talent agency Characters. These three facades will be completely restored and preserved at grade, with the impressive tower sitting above them.

Liu will lend his superpowers to play a direct role in the creative design process in collaboration with interior design firm Cecconi Simone.
The residential suites will range from studios to three-bedroom units, housing everyone from students to young families.
The building will offer its residents a star-worthy slew of amenities, with approximately 26,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor amenity spaces. This means things like a fully-outfitted fitness centre with light wood panelling and reflective black ceilings. As a sign of the times, the building will feature a sleek co-working space with meeting rooms and banquettes.
In addition to a great spot to work, 8 Elm also offers ample opportunities for socializing. Located on the south side of the building, the Social Lounge will bring hotel bar vibes. Meanwhile, a 56th floor Sky Club will feel like an exclusive private members club, complete with a bar and a private terrace.
In addition to multi-level retail space, the podium will also house more than 5,000 sq. ft of public community space at the podium level, to be programmed by the City.
"I have always believed that real estate developers have a responsibility to give back to the cities they build in,” says Simu Liu in a press release. “Having lived in the same Bay Street apartment for eight years, I know the importance of designing and optimizing every square foot of living space so residents can feel happy and relaxed in their homes. I’m extremely excited to be collaborating with Reserve Properties and Capital Developments on a landmark project for which we will be creating top-quality homes and amenities for residents, as well as a brand-new community space in a historic location that will benefit all Torontonians.”
The building’s prime location is within close proximity to both George Brown College and Toronto Metropolitan University, plus CF Toronto Eaton Centre, and Dundas TTC station.
Reserve Properties has a history of executing forward-thinking residential properties and a progressive approach to neighbourhood development. The developers are behind the celebrated Line 5, Rise, and Bellefair condos, as well as Untitled Toronto in collaboration with Pharrell Williams. Meanwhile, Capital Developments are behind 2131 Yonge Street, the stunning building that was done with the late Karl Lagerfeld. The company currently has over one million square feet under construction, including 11 Yorkville.
With its promise to redefine Yonge-Dundas living, 8 Elm will also continue to give Torontonians something to talk about as it becomes a reality.
