Storeys, the preeminent source for news, narratives and insights into our country’s exciting real estate market, has responded to the Chinese community with a new instant translation service for the site's content. Daily posts about the local market will now be available instantly to readers in both English and Simplified Chinese.
Chinese buyers have become a loud and significant voice in the Canadian real estate market.
And we at Storeys are listening.
The Chinese community at large has had a longstanding interest in residential and commercial real estate markets worldwide, and in Toronto, as the new home and condo market continues to intensify, the significant impact the Chinese community has had on the spirited sector is palpable and city-altering.
Interest from mainland China also continues to grow, and Chinese consumers are continually searching for the latest news and engaging narratives people are talking about within the industry.
Storeys Publishing Inc., publisher of Storeys, the leading online source for news, narratives and insights into the country’s red-hot real estate market, recognizes this need, and today has announced the launch of an instant translation service on its site. Daily posts about the local market will now be available instantly to readers in both English and Simplified Chinese.
“Torontonians’ interest in all things real estate knows no bounds,” says Storeys publisher Danny Roth. “There is no community in this city not gripped by the market, nor unaffected by issues of supply and demand, rising prices, or trends in home design. Regardless of ethnicity or economic status, language or lifestyle, real estate today is on everyone’s mind.”
Storeys was launched in September 2016 and publishes content written by a vibrant roster of leading columnists and writers, including Christopher Hume, Shinan Govani, Leanne Delap, Colin & Justin and more.
There are several real estate brokerages and agents in Toronto specializing in the Chinese market. Johnson Cheng, president and broker of record at Cornerstone Marketing Realty Inc., says one key way to meet the needs of Chinese condo buyers is through simple marketing endeavours, like providing reading materials in multiple languages.
Despite the ubiquity of demand for real estate insights across the city, Toronto’s Asian community remains a distinct sub-group within the market, demonstrating interest in and influence on both the low- and high-rise housing markets.
The latest census numbers in 2011 indicate the number of people identifying as Chinese in the GTA is nearing 600,000. Fast forward six years later, the city’s Chinese population will have undoubtedly grown, including new immigrants, and second- or third-generation Canadians who still have strong ties to China through their parents and grandparents.
“While there are few if any differences in the content being uniquely consumed by Storeys’ Chinese readers,” notes Roth, “we have received strong demand for that content to be customized for the Chinese-speaking community.
“By seamlessly providing instantaneous translation capabilities and sharing our content through such dedicated Chinese-language social media channels as WeChat and Weibo, we believe we will be able to significantly grow our market share and offer an inclusive experience for Chinese real estate enthusiasts.
“We look forward to continuing to tell the real estate ‘storeys’ that matter to all Torontonians,” adds Roth, “in a way that always meets their needs.”
